What is a circle gathering?

A 2019 article in Vogue magazine defines a circle gathering as “a space for self-reflection and rest, free of judgement. Gatherings are typically opened by one individual who encourages the group to connect as a sisterhood, and to share their wisdom and experiences.” The Radiant Maiden circle gatherings provide a casual, comfortable environment to discuss the menstrual cycle so that we can begin to normalize the topic and take away the old stigma of a topic that “should not be talked about”.

How can I get a group together?

The first step is to gather a group of 8-10 maidens ranging in ages 10-11. Get a volunteer to host. Lessons ideally will take place in a living room with couches and a floor we can sit on. We will need a kitchen or dining table for crafts. Once you have the group assembled choose a day of the week that we can meet. We will meet 4 times for 2 hours. Timing can be flexible. Right after school is an option 4pm -6pm or after dinner. 6:00 or 6:30 to 8:00 or 8:30.

Can parents/caregivers participate?

Yes! Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend and observe. The curriculum is designed specifically for the girls’ age group, but you might learn something too! You will also get a glimpse of how your maiden is processing this upcoming change in her life which will help you understand how to support her. The participation within the circle will be exclusively up to the girls, but adult hands will be helpful in assisting with the crafts. We will have the parents and caregivers sit outside the circle.

Will you be teaching my child about sex?

NO, I will not be teaching your child about sex. The subject matter covers the menstrual cycle as a barometer of health, not sex education. The content is simple and digestible for a child in this age range. The goals of this course are to give them a foundational understanding about the changes they will be going through and how to integrate them into their lives in a healthy and accepting way. We will also build community so they don’t feel alone and we will add an element of celebration as they enter a new phase of their lives. Any questions that come up outside of the curriculum will be directed to you, the caregiver.

What should we bring to class?

Bring blankets and/or plushies. Wear comfy clothes! The cost of the course covers all the materials. They will receive a booklet and crafts including cycle beads to learn how to track their cycles. We will make period preparedness packs for their back packs and moon boxes to keep special trinkets.

What is the cost of the course?

The cost is $150 per child and covers all materials and craft supplies. Financial assistance is available, if needed and will be kept confidential. Email to inquire!
